Led by both the commitments of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the State University of New York's College of Nanoscale Science & Engineering to develop regional talent in the nanotechnology field, and the District's pledge to bolster a tech-centric business environment, Tech Valley was recently selected as Global Foundries' newest global business site. Global Foundries, Advanced Micro Devices' manufacturing arm, is constructing a Chip fabrication plant in Saratoga County just twenty-five miles north of Cresa' Upstate New York office. The construction of this chip fab plant is currently the largest construction project in the world and is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2011. The opening of the plant is expected to have a rippling effect on the Capital District's economy. Technology based firms from around the world have begun to co-locate near the park as either suppliers to the Plant or support services to the park.
